I have the honour to acknowledge the receint of your letter offects of the 27th of July covering
a despatch from the Governor of Hong Kong 1 th
enclosuree relative to the provision of signalling
installation at the Kowloon Railway Station Yare.
2. We communicated copies of these mppers to the
Consulting Engineers and I now enclose for the considera-
tion of the Secretary of State a copy of letter from
them in which they explain that in the circumstances it
would be difficult to ask for competitive tenders for
the materials on fair basis and recommend that a cefinite quotation sho :ld be obtained from the Railway
Signal Co.
3. We concur in this recomendation and request the authority of the Secretary of State to act upon it.
4. The desratch from the Governor which accompanied your letter coes not make it quite clear whether we are authorised to place an order for the ing tall-tion and we shall therefore be gl for the Secretary of State's instructions on this point.
